since it’s so hard for brett to get time off now, we didn’t get to go up at christmas and finally now had a chance to make the trip. he switched shifts with someone one day to make a four day weekend possible and we flew up there (tickets were waaaay cheaper than at christmas too which is a plus). the weekend was the perfect mixture of relaxation and stuff to do and i really felt like i made some headway in reading les mis. brett also finally got his wish granted and got to see sky fall. we loved it. brett’s dad recently started a part time selling cars for fun, so needless to say julie and i were a little sick of car talk from brett and him by the time the weekend was over. doesn’t help my case for getting brett to cool it about getting a different car!
we got in friday afternoon and spent that day lounging at the house and hitting up dead man shoes. a tradition every time we go. saturday we went downtown to see a performance of classical chinese dance called shen yun. i loved seeing how many people with adopted chinese daughters came to see it too. such a good idea. it was beautiful and very interesting and actually a little political towards the end, although i won’t lie, i think almost all of us accidentally nodded off at least once… it was just so dark and warm in there! it was so cold outside! it flurried a little bit saturday.

we spent sunday exploring downtown some more. we took a tour of ryman auditorium which was a longtime home of the grand ole opry. the history in that room was palpable. and we wanted to steal all of the good looking concert posters. old crow is playing there next week, we just missed em!
we also stopped in at the wild horse saloon which is pretty famous. i’m pretty sure i had a “line dancing how to: achy breaky heart and boot scootin’ boogie” vhs tape that was filmed there.
we flew out after lunch with julie on monday and a little bit of mall walking. i looove flying, but on this trip i realized that i’m kind of a crotchety old woman when it comes to sitting by groups of friends who are having too good of a time together. haters gonna hate and that was me. my bad. on our flight out of nashville i sat there waiting to board staring at one of these groups. the guy kept looking so familiar but i couldn’t quite place him. i heard him and his trendy flock of youngin’s say his name a couple times so i googled him and it was one of the choreographers from so you think you can dance! wish i would have realized sooner so i could have sneaked a pic!
and one last funny thing about our trip this weekend, it was very fitting we spent valentine’s weekend in nashville since the last time we were there was for our anniversary! haha what are the odds. good thing we don’t do much celebrating for either of those holidays. we spent valentine’s night at our regular neighborhood thai place (it had red shades on all the lights though, oooh) and packing. 7am flights come too early!

What a fun trip! You definitely needed the break.
That stage looks amazing! And your horse friend looks pretty cool too :)
Glad you’re all caught up and back on the blogging train :)
