brett’s birthday happened to fall on his three day weekend off work so we decided to head up to birmingham to visit jp and lindsey who’ve lived there for over a year and we’ve yet to visit. (even though that one time we were coming home from nashville and passing jp’s exit as he got off work and brett said we didn’t have time so we didn’t stop! we’ll never let brett live that down!) brett’s been trying to ride jp’s coat tails into the va ever since graduation. jp’s doing a second residency there now in administration so he got brett to do a meet and greet with his boss to have an interview on file for any future job openings. here’s hoping! i was adamantly against moving to alabama, but i gotta give it to them, birmingham really made a good impression on me. i’d go as far to say that i loved it. also, the fact that moving there would get him on track for his long term career goal is definitely enough to make me move. we’ll see!here’s brett calling jp to get him to come down and get us. i sat in the waiting room while brett got the tour and the interview. jp held his hand the whole time. no but seriously he really did give brett the tour and sit in on the interview since his residency is administration. brett was on cloud nine all weekend from seeing the pharmacists with actual chairs to do their jobs and drinks on the job. he was especially happy to hear that he could wear scrubs if he worked there. big difference from his shirt and tie uniform of the past five years! throughout the weekend brett would randomly just be like, “just think of how amazing that would be… scrubs to work.”and here’s brett swatting for me to stop taking pictures in said waiting room. i read my kindle and tried not to fall asleep. easier said than done. after jp and lindsey got off work we went to a delicious greek place then they took us to the vulcan statue. such a beautiful view of the city from the top of the statue. i had no idea birmingham was so beautiful! i didn’t realize how much elevation change they have. it was nice to be somewhere random like a mall parking lot and have this amazing view across the hills. i liked being able to spot the vulcan on the hill as we drove into town every day too. brett’s birthday came bright and early for him this year with a 6am tee time with jp. blame the early start or his old age… brett didn’t fair so well against jp. poor guy. after golf we went to a farmers market and stocked up on lots of delicious fruit (such juicy peaches!) and cooled off with some amazing real fruit popsicles from steel city pops. that braided bread was soooo good. i never make bread, but if i did… i now know it’s a great idea to roll the bottom in italian spices before you bake it. jp and lindsey have two cute/fun/sweet pups! brett couldn’t even help loving snuggling with them and had to admit they would be fun to own. he dodged the puppy bullet for now since i got preg, but one of these days i’ll get him.we stopped at the tux shop to get brett measured for their upcoming wedding. that guy was a real character and put jp’s patience to the test! it was hilarious. for us.brett being thankful he doesn’t have to deal with tux decisions. (it really does blend in but can you spot the camo vest? are they serious?) we went to dinner at a great mexican place. it was so great in fact that we had an hour wait. lindsey and i went and shopped in the outdoor mall while the boys waited with the buzzer. oh the joys of not being brett and jp’s third wheel! i’ve waited for this moment for so long! lindsey introduced me to francesca’s (from which i bought something for myself on brett’s birthday, is that bad? it was a gaudy gold watch and i tried to see how long it would take him to notice it. he didn’t. when he finally asked what i bought he tried it on and it fit him so he said it can be our watch. it’s a little too miami vice on him though. ha) and charming charlie’s which i could really get used to living in the same city as. (shh, don’t tell my premier jewler!) after dinner we went bowling (dejavu? third year in a row.) so brett could redeem himself. love how brett looks so legit with his foot kicked to the side when he bowls.just scoping out what my belly will look like in a few months. that face! brett was less than thrilled with how the redeeming himself was going… here he is trying to delete the scoreboard from the second game since he came in last. let’s blame old age. he refused to cooperate with treat suggestions to celebrate during the weekend so i came home on monday with his go-to vegan cookie dough, sang to him in my best worst singing voice, and he blew out at least one candle. happy happy birthday bretty! hope all your wildest dreams come true this year! feel like we’ve got a pretty good start on two of them – and no i’m not referencing a car related dream here. ;) it’s the last year of your 20s! live it up! or start counting down until the dreaded birthday party you’ll inevitably be getting from me for your big 30th! :)
p.s. thanks again jp and lindsey for having us! promise it won’t be another year until you see us in birmingham! can’t wait for the wedding! can’t believe it’s basically two months away!
